Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that every participant and situation is different. This page is here to offer gentle, practical information about sessions, programmes, and what to expect at Charis Ponies. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you’re always welcome to get in touch.

Sessions & Programmes

What happens in a session?

Each session is tailored to the individual or group and generally includes calm interaction with ponies through grooming, observation, structured play, guided activities, and relationship-building exercises.

Sessions move at a pace participants feel comfortable with and are designed to encourage confidence, trust, communication, and connection.

Do participants ride the ponies?

No. Charis Ponies focuses on non-riding interaction and learning through structured play and relationship-building with ponies.

The emphasis is on connection, confidence, communication, and personal growth rather than riding instruction.

How long are sessions?

Session length varies depending on the programme and participant needs. Most ongoing programmes generally run for around one hour to one and a half hours, but can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

What ages are supported?

Most programmes are designed for participants aged 10 years and older, including teens and adults. If you are unsure whether a programme may be suitable, please feel free to get in touch.

Safety & Support

What if someone is nervous around horses?

That is completely okay. Sessions are designed to move at the pace participants feel comfortable with. Many people begin simply by observing the ponies before gradually building confidence over time.

Can support people attend?

Yes. Support people are welcome and encouraged to attend sessions where appropriate. Charis programmes work collaboratively with participants and their support people.

What should we wear?

Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, closed footwear, and sun protection suitable for outdoor activities and changing weather conditions.
